Botanical Personal Care: What to Look For
Shopping for botanical personal care should feel straightforward. Before you buy, look for a product that tells you what is in it, how it should be used and what precautions you should know.
Start with the ingredient list
Choose products that identify their ingredients clearly instead of relying on vague phrases or oversized promises. If you have sensitive skin or known allergies, review the label carefully before use.
Look for clear directions
A good product page should explain where the product is intended to be used, how much to apply and how long it should remain on the skin. Follow the product instructions rather than using more in an attempt to get a stronger effect.
Keep expectations realistic
Botanical does not automatically mean risk-free, and no personal-care product works exactly the same way for everyone. Be cautious of guaranteed results, permanent promises or claims that a topical product can replace medical care.
Patch test when appropriate
For topical products, a small-area test may help you see how your skin responds when the product directions allow it. Stop using a product if you develop irritation, swelling, burning or another unexpected reaction.
